Spiritual Conversations. . . .with 4-year-olds

Yesterday in the car, my son (or was it my daughter) asked me, "Mom, how can Jesus be God if Jesus was born 2000 years ago and God has lived forever?" Whichever child asked me, these are deep thoughts for a 4- or 6-year-old. I'm so glad they think deeply sometimes and ask me these questions, especially when we're driving, because I don't necessarily think to address the deep issues on a regular basis. I'm glad they want to go beyond the simple truth that Jesus does indeed love them, and get into theology and apologetics.

However, their philosophical thinking doesn't last too long. We were driving to pick up 2 friends for an overnight, and on the way home, this is how the conversation went:

"He's fat."

"It's not nice to call anyone fat."

"Well, except one person. We can call Satan fat. Right, Mom?"

"Yes."

"OK, well Satan is the fattest buffalo in the world."

LOL!

  2. Hadn't thought of it that way. Funny how medieval illustrations show him as very, very thin....maybe we need an update. Commission some portraits!
