Mirror Image

You know how they say that people look in the mirror and think they are fatter than they really are?

Well, not me, apparently.

I mean, I know I'm not slim by any means. I know that I could stand to lose a good amount of weight (never mind how much). But I tend to think I carry it well.

Here is evidence to the contrary: when I put on this outfit for my nephew's graduation party, I thought it looked decent. I thought it looked light and summery and that it managed to cover up my flaws in a fairly efficient fashion.

Instead I look like the Great Pumpkin.

Unfortunately I didn't notice this until after the party and after all the pictures were taken. And I can't exactly delete the pictures of my awesome God-son's graduation bash.

But, dang. I thought I was going to be his cool, hip Auntie Jenny.

Instead, I'm his great aunt Marge in a muumuu.

  1. I have an orange shirt too and had to retire it to being a pj or lounging shirt because every time I put it on I thought I looked like a pumpkin too....wonderful

  2. You are so funny! Look; this is what I think: I think that photos just don't capture the "real" impression we make because they are so static. That's my impression and I'm stickin' to it. For sanity's sake.

  3. You look beautiful and orange is a great color on you! I do know what you mean though about thinking we look great and then seeing pictures later. I just wonder sometimes why God invented the camera, LOL!

    Have a great day!

  4. Hi my precious daughter (in-law), you look just great whatever you wear. Don't forget, photos always make anyone look bigger than they really are. That's why female movie stars are all a size 1 to a max of size 3 and look like bean poles in real life!!!! "Real" women are much more beautiful, as are you!

Read your comments about not liking tea - I forgive you!!!! Love Mum (English spelling of Mom)

  6. I haven't talked to you much since our initial "meeting" but I've been following your ups and downs and laughing and crying with you. I might not say it, and we don't know each other, but I feel I know you because our thoughts on things are so similar.
Being a woman of curves myself, I understand how you feel. Some days I put on clothes and think I look pretty hot...then I see a pic or catch a side view and wonder what the hell was I thinking. But in the end, we have to love ourselves and take care of ourselves and the people around us will be drawn to us. Our weight doesn't matter, what matters is that you are a good, kind, funny, smart and sweet person. Anyone who makes a big fuss of negativity about your body should also take a good long look at themselves, but in an emotional and spiritual way. Many people are down on themselves and by picking on someone else, it makes them feel better, if only for a while. Don't you pick on yourself, just enjoy life and you can deal with the life that has been given. It's all good! :-D
